WordPress 5.9 was released early this year last January 25, 2022. A lot of noise surrounded new features launched, such as Full-site editing and Block-based themes. According to WordPress developers, this is one of the biggest releases since the Gutenberg launch. What’s new in this version? We will be diving deeper into these changes and giving you the lowdown on what to expect for each, as well as the longer-term impact of full-site editing using WordPress.

NEW DEFAULT THEME

 

We get a new WordPress default theme per year, and 2022 is no exception. This year’s theme is called Twenty Twenty-Two, and the theme’s design was inspired by birds outside the designer’s kitchen window. It’s a minimalist, yet elegant design that is still easy on the eyes. A good thing about the theme is aside from it having many different customization options for colors, fonts and other design elements, it’s also compatible with the new Full-site editing feature.

NEW UPDATES IN FULL-SITE EDITING

Full-site editing allows you to directly edit all parts of the site—from how it looks, to the templates.

BLOCK-BASED THEMES

Hansen, TT1 Blocks, or Tove, are just some block themes available. The release of WordPress 5.9 gives us more themes supporting the FSE and have all of the site block elements which will make it easier to create and edit your site.

The Block-based themes will have new options which helps streamline the process of creating a full site editing website, then being able to edit the website using blocks.
